The Android team announced new Android Wear features upcoming, which include GPS support and ability to communicate with other Bluetooth devices. There are also plans to implement a number of other updates, such as navigation and voice control improvements, by the end of this year.
All of the above is to make Android Wear devices more autonomous. Thus, with a GPS chip built in their smart watches, users won’t have to rely on their smartphones to run activity trackers and similar apps. As for the Bluetooth communication feature, it is claimed that, once it’s there, users will be able, for instance, to play back music directly from their watches, without connecting a smartphone to a Bluetooth headset. Google gives no other details as to what this new feature will mean, but one can assume a range of new possibilities opening up, from smarthome control to direct keyboard input.
