if you’re like me, then you may have missed out on the Atari 2600 and Atari arcade games. Having moved to the United States in the late 80’s, my first home console was a Nintendo Entertainment System. While I knew of Atari as a kid, I wasn’t exactly interested in playing on an old system like the 2600 when I had the NES with its (at the time) more powerful graphics.
I missed out on many great titles which were instrumental in creating the gaming landscape we know today, but thanks to the just announced Atari Vault on Steam, I can finally play some of the industry’s true classics.
The Atari Vault contains 100 of the biggest titles from the 70’s and 80’s. We’re talking about old-school gems like Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command, Tempest, Warlords, and more. The games will have new control schemes that mimic the controls of the originals. The user interface is set up to remind users of the glorious arcade days, and each game will have its original arcade cabinet and box art. Expect the original soundtrack for each title as well.
Since this is a modern game, it also features online and local multiplayer. Expect Steam Leaderboards that will let you compare your score with those of rivals from across the world. The collection will also feature Steam Controller support.
The Atari Vault costs $19.99, but will be discounted to $16.99 until March 31 (next Thursday). I don’t know about you guys, but I’m about to hop on Steam right now to purchase this collection and experience what my gaming forefathers did.
