Gitex Shopper Spring edition is entering final hours of shopping and the discount deals are just getting better. Most retailers are dropping prices of laptops between Dh100 to Dh200 or adding additional bundles.
Meanwhile Samsung has decided to go aggressive on Gear VR headsets allowing retailers to aggressively push the product with attractive bundles.
Sharaf DG for example has started pushing the Gear VR for Dh399 and is offering free hotel stay for two nights and three days for two people across multiple international destinations including various tourist destinations in Thailand, Singapore, South Africa, India and Pakistan.
Meanwhile the organisers said the numbers on the third and fourth day and so far on the fourth day had quite made up for the slow turnout on the first two days.
“Yesterday as a great show. The retailers are quite happy. Even today there were lines queueing up quite early and we had to open the show earlier than scheduled,” said an organizer. The show is scheduled to end at 11pm tonight.
However, there are some concerns about the Big Spring Clearance Sale that is happening simultaneously at the same venue that is eating up into the numbers at the Shopper. “Many families who come to visit both the events first go to the clearance sale and are too tired to get into the Shopper. Next year the Trade Centre should not club the two shows together,” said a senior official from a retail firm. The organisers too feel the same and we hope it will not be repeated,” he added.
