What does NASA do when an Astronaut dies in space?

من طرف CrinetJanet

NASA is known to be one of the most popular space organizations in the world that send scientists and astronauts to the moon as well as other planets. Travelling to space is indeed a great experience and people who get a chance to do the same are indeed lucky as well as qualified enough to accomplish the task.

Travelling to space nowadays has become a real easy task for all astronauts. However, have you ever wondered that what would happen to you if you die in space? Would you be left alone or would you be brought back to the earth? There has been no incident as such till now, except the death of Vladimir Putin who died very close to the space but not in space.

1-Very hypothetical question

The question itself is really hypothetical as NASA has yet to lose a scientist in space. There hasn’t been a scientist working with NASA, who has died in space.Even Russia has never lost any scientist in the space. There have been scientists who have died due to blasts of rockets while returning from space but not in space as such. Most of the accidents happen in the atmosphere rather than in the space and this is especially during launch and landing of rockets. In case a crew member does die in space, here are some conditions that may occur. Astronauts are known to stay in the space station for round about six months and they are known to undergo rigorous training processes before launch of the rocket.

2-Take him back to earth

In case an astronaut does lose his life in space, he would have to be brought back to the earth as he cannot just be left in space. There would a number of physical risks concerned like weight of the rocket, balance while returning from space and much more. The best way is to carry him back to earth and then bury his body in the graveyard.

3-Can the body be released in space?

Though it is possible to release the body in space itself, it would be theoretically wrong. This is not at all expected from fellow astronauts who are your companion and your friend in need. This would mean an act of cold-heartedness on the part of the colleagues. An International Law according to a UN agreement also says that no foreign object or material as well as any other garbage or waste products would be allowed to be deposited on any other planet or on the moon.

4-Chances are rare

Though there are chances that an astronaut may die in space, chances are pretty rare. Every astronaut is made to exert physically as well as mentally when he attends space. They are tested stringently for any kind of physical disease or inability that might harm them in space. They have to undergo an intense physical training as well as a vigorous six months physical training before going to space. Thus, chances are very rare that an astronaut may die in space except for any severe accident out there that would destroy the rocket as well.

5-Dust that can be carried home

NASA has formulated an idea where it was decided that they would devise a bag, being named ‘Body Back’, where the body would be slipped in after death. Then the body would be made to freeze in space, and then transformed to dust by vibrating, this dust would be carried back to earth. Though this seems a little bit weird, this would indeed be cost effective and easy as well.

Though there are many questions that arise when astronauts do go to space, events like this are rare and have never happened before. Scientists are still finding out answers for the same by conducting various research works.

This question still remains a mystery and this cannot be actually implemented before actually some astronaut dies in space and proves that some steps should be taken by NASA to bury the person peacefully in Space or on Earth. The answer is bleak till today and there are many hypothetical statements that are still lingering by many astronauts as well as NASA itself.
