阿圭罗在接受采访时谈到了自己第一次心律不齐的时候，是在阿根廷队在2014年世界杯半决赛遇到了荷兰队的比赛中，他主罚点球的时候发现了心律不齐。
在那场比赛中，荷兰主教练范加尔决定让西莱森守在球门上，而不是换上曾和阿圭罗同在英超踢球的纽卡斯尔守门员克鲁尔。克鲁尔的上场在之前的比赛中起到了关键作用，因为克鲁尔在对阵哥斯达黎加的比赛中曾两次扑出点球。
阿圭罗说道：“我以为克鲁尔会告诉西莱森我的射门偏好，我想我要反着我喜欢的方向踢，我要把球踢到另一边去。但当我走着过去接球时，我在思考。然后我发现了我第一次心律不齐。”
“当我即将到达罚点球区域时，我又觉得克鲁尔会让西莱森改变方向，扑我不喜欢的射门方向，所以我还是决定踢我最喜欢的位置。最后当我拿到球的时候，我还是没有改变，因为我之前已经做了决定。”
最终阿根廷在点球大战中战胜荷兰，成功挺进世界杯决赛。
