Connectivity has been something of a sore point with the new MacBook Pro – from complaints about dropping the SD card slot, to the fact that you only get a pair of Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports on the base 13-inch model – and now we’re hearing that to heap misery on top of the latter, some existing Thunderbolt 3 devices aren’t compatible with Apple’s freshly revealed notebooks.
The only place I like seeing a beach ball is at a beach or in a stadium during a baseball game or concert. The one place I least like to see a beach ball is on my aging MacBook Pro, where the spinning beach ball has become an altogether too familiar a sight. If your Mac has become frustratingly slow, there are a number of ways you can speed it up again.
Before you engage in any maintenance, I would urge you to take caution and back up your data. For Macs, it's easy: grab an external drive and run Time Machine. With your Mac's drive freshly backed up, you may proceed.
Neural networks are all the rage recently—they're a way to get software to make decisions based on an overwhelming amount of data and the fundamental component of deep learning, which allows computers to recognize photos, speech, and text with unparalleled accuracy.
Good news! The MacBook lineup could be getting a refresh as early as this month. Maybe.
Rumors have swirled for months now, and with the MacBook lineup lagging further and further behind the competition, it seems like Apple should be rolling out updates any day now, right? Well it looks like we might be getting an update sooner rather than later, according to some evidence uncovered by 9to5 Mac. The chief indicator of an upcoming announcement comes to us from a quarterly earnings call, which Apple has conspicuously rescheduled to October 25, due to a “scheduling conflict” on October 27.
A security expert has delivered a fresh warning about malware on the Mac, and how he believes existing malicious software could potentially be easily modified to tap into a webcam in a clever and stealthy manner, recording video chats without the user's knowledge.
Mac-targeted malware which aims to exploit the webcam is certainly nothing new – we've seen the likes of Eleanor, Crisis and most recently Mokes which are capable of compromising your webcam (and indeed in the latter case, a whole range of functions from the camera through to the mic and keyboard, recording video, audio and keystrokes).
Apple's macOS Sierra has finally been revealed, and while many see Siri as one of its biggest features, I was more delighted in the ways that Apple has integrated the cloud into the MacBook while bringing it closer to its other devices.
While it's clear Apple is pitching Siri to be better than Cortana, many of the other features it introduced seem to nip at the coattails of Google and itsChromebooks.
The launch of 13” MacBook- with only one inch on the diagonal separating the two models- will join Apple's existing 12-inch MacBook with Retina display, meaning an end to meaningful development of the MacBook Air series.
Most of us have come to take for granted that our Mac, iPhone, or iPad just sort of… work. It's there when we need it and ready to perform whatever task we demand of it.
The flipside of that is, of course, that when things do go wrong, such as your Mac not starting up, we're more likely to be caught out. But that doesn't have to be the case; there's almost nothing that can go wrong that hasn't gone wrong for several other people at some point in the past – and, in most cases, has been fixed without too much trauma.
HP wasn't joking when it teased that its new laptop will give Apple's MacBook lineup a run for its money. The company on Tuesday unveiled the new HP Spectre 13 (aka HP Spectre, HP Spectre 13.3). The laptop packs in top-of-the-line hardware in a body that is only 10.4mm thick (in comparison, Apple's MacBook is 13.1mm thick). On the sidelines, HP also unveiled a new logo for its brand and unveiled some new models in its mid-range Envy-lineup of devices.
When I bought my Macbook Pro a year ago, I was feeling so internally guilty about spending $1500 on a laptop that I only paid for 128GB of storage, a decision I’ve regretted about three times per day ever since. This solution isn’t cheap, but at least it will stop me whining.
