In an attempt to reduce the environmental impact Samsung is going to recycle 157 tonnes of rare metals from its sadly remembered Galaxy Note 7s smartphones, which gained notoriety last year after a battery defect caused explosions.

Recently Samsung and Intel both filed claims against Qualcomm, stating they have been “harmed” by its misconduct. Although Samsung produces its own chips that compete with Qualcomm’s, it uses its competitor’s chips in its smartphones — such as the Snapdragon 835 processor in the Galaxy S8. Qualcomm’s “exclusionary” actions are that Qualcomm has refused to license Samsung to make and sell licensed chipsets wherefore Samsung now cannot sell licensed Exynos chipsets to non-Samsung companies.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship will be available in two sizes and feature an almost bezel-less “infinity” display and iris scanner, according to sources that spoke with The Guardian.

If the rumors are correct, the two S8 models (codenamed Dream and Dream 2) will have curved displays around the 5-inch and 6-inch realms that wrap around the left- and right-hand edges of the screen, a-la the current Galaxy S7 Edge.

Samsung has announced that next year's Galaxy S8 smartphone will come equipped with its very own artificially intelligent assistant service.

It’s not clear how long Samsung has been planning to integrate this technology into its phones, but it was only as recently as October that the company announced its acquisition of Viv Labs Inc. Viv Labs is a firm run by a co-creator of Apple’s voice assistant, Siri, and Samsung is planning to introduce Viv into its home appliances and wearable technology as well as its smartphones.

Here is our new list of remarkable M&As. As usual it is drawn up in a date order.
