Dubai has moved another important step forward towards its smart city goals with passing of new laws by the United Arab Emirates’ Prime Minister and Vice President, the Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum.
The laws open the door for both public and private sectors encouraging cooperation between them.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said: "Today we have completed the organisational structure and legal framework for transforming Dubai into the world’s smartest city and creating a new and unique model in developing and managing cities."
He added: "Managing global cities requires sustained efforts to provide fast and innovative services. We must utilise modern technology and available resources to achieve our objectives."
He appealed to the Dubai government agencies and departments to collaborate in order to pursue the smartest city goals.
Sheikh Hamdan tends to involve both the public and private sectors to submit a cutting edge infrastructure integrating all management systems in the city.
According to the laws, there will be established the Dubai Smart City Office with formation of the Board and appointment of a director general for the Office.
The Dubai Smart City Office will be responsible for strategies generation and policy-making concerning IT and the smart government, as well as approval of initiatives, projects, and services working for the smart transformation.
The new laws also empower the Office to collaborate with any organization within and outside of Dubai aiming at representation of the most efficient and prudent course of action in the field, approval of significant plans and budgets.
On 13th December His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces arrived in China for an official three-day visit. Sheikh Mohammed attends a series of meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other top-level officials of People’s Republic of China. The main issue of the meetings is restoring the ancient Silk Road connecting the Middle East with Asia that will be a platform and a bridge for exchange in all fields in order to develop economic and social links. There also will be discussed other issues of regional and international importance, such as bilateral cooperation in investment sector and industry and other common ambitions for further friendly development. In recent years UAE aims to strengthening economic relations with China, which have steadily grown over the past years with their two-way trade exceeding Dh200 billion during 2004-2014.
