As Apple is yet again named the world's most admired company, I wonder just how much a lack of great competition has contributed to Cupertino's dominance.

Once, it was fanciful to think that Microsoft would be the company that would beat Apple. It had might. It had dominant, if ugly, software.

For the first time Apple is going to allow its AI researchers to publish their research, a move which could help the company make significant advancements in its AI technology. 

According to a report from Bloomberg, Russ Salakhutdinov, an Apple director of AI research, recently revealed the news at the Neural Information Processing Systems conference in Barcelona.

This isn't a completely surprising move since Apple has already proven it's willing to step away from the secretive insular development processes its become known for in the name of improving the performance of its voice assistant Siri.

Apple launched iOS 10 back in September to mostly positive reviews, but with the recent release of a 10.1.1 update, something has gone wrong. A growing number of users are reporting that their battery is no longer functioning correctly, and there's no obvious reason as to why.

According to the latest figures posted by Apple, more than half the iOS device (iPhone, iPad and iPod touch) users visiting the App Store have updated to iOS 10. The Cupertino-based company updated its App Store Distribution page to show the OS distribution data of App Store visitors on October 7 2016, split between iOS 10, iOS 9 and earlier iOS versions.
