After promising the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 LTE devices would get the Android 7.0 Nougat update in "the coming weeks" in the middle of September, Google has finally made good on its promise - at least for the Nexus 6. The update was released alongside the monthly Android security update for Nexus and Pixel devices. According to the security bulletin, Google has released two security patch level strings, one on October 1 and the other on October 5. The first one is partial patch with few bug fixes, while the October 5 patch brings crucial fixes and is the final version.
Apple has issued new security updates for El Capitan and Yosemite, as well as its Safari browser, fixing the same serious security vulnerability discovered in its iOS software last week. As with the urgent iOS 9.3.5 update, Mac owners should grab today's OS X updates as soon as possible, fixing problems that could otherwise give malicious software access to your device's kernel.
Microsoft is currently encouraging PC users to update to Windows 10 as quickly as possible, because the latest version of its flagship OS will no longer be free to download after July 29 of this year. However, the company has now thrown a bone to holdouts who would still rather use Windows 7.
