HI-TECH НОВОСТИ с #2015 хэштегом

Innovation and evolution are key topics at this year’s events. The financial landscape is changing, online business grows and flourishes, design, hospitality and interior communities meet and exchange ideas.

Here is a short list of key business events taking place in May in Dubai.

Those times when the UAE was considered just a touristic attraction are already history, as, over the past years, it turned into a leading regional hub for IT and telecommunication trade, thanks to its position as an excellent platform for top tier tech companies from all over the world. After all, the numerous global technology-oriented events that were organized here are the best proof of the country’s progress!

According to Dubai’s traffic police the existing penaltiy for driving while using mobile phones is not harsh enough. The current penalty is going to be increased in five times. Moreover the vehicle will be confiscated for a month. As traffic violation will be considered not only talking by mobile phones, texting or taking selfies but also using mobiles while even stopping at traffic lights.

Dubai’s traffic police claims the main reason for car accidents in UAE is mobile phone using while driving. Recommendations on increase of the penalties were caused by growing number of deadful car accidents induced by using mobile phones by drivers. In 2015 Dubai Police fined about 50 thousand of drivers; in 2014 their number was more than 45 thousand while in 2013 there were recorded about 36 thousand cases.

Internet of Things World Forum III - A Success

Cisco made an announcement that the 3rd Internet of Things World Forum 2015, which took place in Dubai, with over 2000 people attending, was a resounding success.

The Forum emphasized on 3 themes, with keynotes by industry experts and leaders:

  • Awaken – focusing on showing business consumers the advantage of IoT in their companies
  • Activate – planning IoT studies and practices by analyzing regional customer case studies
  • Accelerate – increasing the rate of industry advancement using developers and service providers

Rabih Dabboussi, GM of Cisco UAE, said that it was clear to him that the IoT and innovation in the industry were changing society already. He described the atmosphere as exciting, inspiring and revealing.

Over 25 customers talked about the IoT. Attendees experienced the development of Dubai’s education, healthcare and transport systems hands-on. This included a bus tour to the design district to view the advances in technology and communication, in which the Chairman of the Cisco board John Chambers met with leaders of the country, media and customers in order to speak about the opportunities IoT creates.

Additional events in the forum included:

  • Research and Innovation Symposium – speeches by scholars, tech researchers and great minds about the IoT and its possibilities.
  • Hackathon – coding competition and learning session
  • Cisco Innovation Grand Challenge – 15 startups competing for $250,000 in cash by presenting their innovative new solutions before the closing ceremony.

The closing ceremony celebrated the Forum’s success as well as the winners of the sub-events in the forum.

The launch of German fusion reactor

German fusion reactor Wendelstein 7-X, belonging to the class of stellarators, is to be launched for the first time on December 10, 2015. This decision became feasible after receiving a special permission from the German regulatory authorities. This was reported on the website of German newspaper Die Welt.

The testing of the reactor will be started with the obtaining helium plasma inside it. The plasma is planned to be hold at equilibrium state for about 1-2 sec. The same testing with hydrogen plasma will take place at the end of January, 2016. Choosing helium for this launch is caused by the fact that it is relatively much more easy to transfer it into plasma state, rather then hydrogen.

While the first phase of testing itself, scientists are going to check the work of the reactor's systems and make some troubleshooting. Upon successful completion of the second phase of the experiment, the researchers expect to keep hydrogen plasma on Wendelstein 7-X within ten seconds. The ultimate aim of the physics is to see plasma confinement for 30 minutes.

The construction and conduction of the stellarator Wendelstein 7-X is carried out by Max Planck Institute for Physics of plasma. The reactor is located in the town of Greifswald in northern Germany. The building of the installation began in 2005 and lasted till 2014. The cost of the construction exceeds 370 million euros.

Stellarator Wendelstein 7-X consists of 70 superconducting coils weighing more than 725 tons, capable of creating a magnetic field that keeps the plasma with a temperature of up to one hundred million degrees Celsius (this is seven times higher than the temperature in the center of the solar core).

Today in the world there are only two promising projects of fusion reactors: the tokamak and the stellarator. In both of them plasma is confined by the magnetic field. In the tokamak it has the shape of a toroidal cord through which electric current is passed, and in the stellarator magnetic field is induced by external coils.

In fusion reactors, synthesis formation of heavy elements from the lighter ones (helium from hydrogen isotopes deuterium and tritium e.g., ) occurs, in contrast to the conventional nuclear reactors, where the process of decay of heavy nuclei into lighter ones take place.
